For the thousands of people that were lucky enough play this game in elementary school, this will be a blast from the past. Number Munchers was an educational math game originally developed for the Apple by Mecc. Basically, what you do is travel around the board and eat the right answers. Avoid the Troggles, as you will lose a life if they catch you.
This spot-on remake by Nick Andren does an excellent job of capturing the essense of the Number Munchers game we knew and loved back in the day.
Vista users: If you are having trouble getting it working, try using DOSBox. Once you have it installed, follow these steps:
1. Extract number_munchers.zip into a folder.
2. Move this folder (mine is called number_munchers) to your C:\ drive. The game should now be located in C:\number_munchers\.
3. Run DOSBox-0.72 from the start menu or desktop.
4. In the black console window, type mount c c:\number_munchers\ and press Enter.
5. Type C:\munchers and press Enter. The game should now be running. Use arrow keys and the spacebar to play.
6. If the game is running too slow, press CTRL+F12 as many times as you need until it runs fast enough.

I love number munchers. I am 34 years old now. I remember hurrying up to finish my work in school so I could have free time on the computer to play Number Munchers & Oregon Trail...so glad I found these games. This is a very fun way to learn & play at the same time. Awesome game!!!!

Agree with Mark J, daughter only allowed to play educational games including NM as a toddler. Played this nonstop. Was Nat’l Merit Scholar, US Presidential Scholar. Math was wired in her brain. She never struggled with math.
My daughter played this game a million times as a toddler. I used to bring her out at parties to do head math and astonsih my guests. I lived in Brussels for three years. Her French was not so good, but her teacher gave her a book and a class graduation award as Le Mathimatician! This spring she will graduate from Notre Dame as an engineer. Get it mom and dad!

Any chance of adding Word Munchers or Knowledge Munchers - also brilliant. They did do a deluxe version with asymmetric graphics but the originals play best.

Amazing game. Factors had insanely high scores so I cleverly played primes since my classmates hadn't learn them yet. In fact I hadn't either... props to memorization!

The monsters are soposed to change the numbers in the squares when they pass through them as I remember. This doesn't seem to happen in this version. Otherwise pretty good though.
I LOVED THIS GAME!! Along with Word Munchers, Oregon Trail, and Carmen San Diego. Carm San made it really easy to remember Oslo, the capital of Norway. I'll never forget it.
This game is incredible! it features a character trying to collect all of a certain number group for instance primes, multiples and factors are just three of the six game modes. I promise you this game will have you i your seat for hours!

I love(d) this game. We also had it on our Macs in elementary school, as well as the Oregon Trail, which is also a pretty good game. Thankfully, the game followed us onto the PCs as we got older.

I should've known that there would be a modern version of this awesome game. I had alot of fun in grade school playing this game and the others that have been mentioned. I just have to get used to these more modern keyboards so I can dodge those troggles faster.

Number munchers is a classic. It's a part of every mid to late 80's babies childhood along with Word munchers, carmen sandiago and Oregon Trail they all deserve 100's. The amination was crap in retrospect but that's what made it great

Hands down, the best "edutainment" title in existence. Oregon trail was a close second, only because of the amount of time it took to complete.

It was the same game as i remember ten years ago, but it was too slow. We used to be able to move those arows and click the space bar like crazy. This game does not allow one to do so.

I was so good at this game in my elementary skool days. Everyone in my class would rush to those old Apple II's just so they could play Number Munchers. Great game. I think it helped me calculate numbers in my head a lot faster... So I could get away from those stinking evil green troggles.

In 1 grade, I got my point to over 1,000,000 because the number problems would keep going. I remeber that I got to muliples of 28 before. Besides it is not hard enough, this game is still what I remeber. You should play it now because it is the BEST GAME EVER!!!
